In It for the Drama CD Artwork

All of the black and white portrait photos, used both in the cd artwork and on this site, were taken by friend and fellow Swarthmore alumna Laura Seeley. I am very grateful for the time and effort she put into the project, and for her skill with a camera.

For those of you who know the Boston area, the cover photo (at right) was taken on the strip of grass between Memorial Drive and the Charles River, not too far from Harvard Square.

James Christensen, a friend from the Burren open mic, lent his technical expertise and creative input to the process of creating the cd insert from a hodgepodge of photos and ideas. Much of the layout is his work.

The guitar featured in all of the portrait photos is my much loved Yamaha (Compass series). Thanks to my friend Hugh McGowan (a first-rate guitarist), for traipsing all over Boston with me until I found exactly the instrument I wanted.

The photo (at right) that we used for the back of the cd is one of mine. I took it somewhere along I-70 in Colorado, almost to the border of Kansas. It was summer 1998, between my Junior and Senior years in college, and my friend Cathy and I were driving back to the East Coast from our summer internship in the San Francisco area.

The picture on the sample tracks page of this site was taken on the same trip. We had driven to Bryce Canyon in Utah at night, and slept in our car so we could watch the sunrise over the canyon. That pine tree against the sky is the first thing we saw as we approached the canyon's rim.

I took the photo (at left), that we used for the center of the cd insert, by a lake in Zagreb, Croatia. While studying abroad in Germany my Junior year of college, I became friends with two students from Croatia, who invited me to visit them for a weekend.

During that same semester abroad, I took the photo on the lyrics page of this site, on a hiking trip in the Palatinate Forest in Germany.
