Roommates Jeannine Ameduri and Laura Seeley dreamed of their own cafe. In this francophile household, it could only be a French cafe. The two studied abroad in Grenoble the same semester, although they did not meet until years later in Boston, after Jeannine had returned from a year of teaching English in Brittany.
Laura and Jeannine put their talents to work to realize their dream in their own dining room. Cafe de la Frontiere, so named for its location on the border of Cambridge and Somerville, opened its doors May 20, 2005. Vintage posters give the cafe its air of authenticity, and Laura's hand-sewn curtains and chair cushions really make the ambience. The food is devine, the service is excellent, and you can't help getting caught up in the fun when you see how much these two love life.
I was honored to be the cafe's first featured performer, and to have flautist Danielle Alderson as an opening act. This was Danielle's first solo performance, and I hope to hear more often.
