Waterlilies

Words and Music by Lisa Locke, 2000
Inspired by Claude Monet

1. His waterlilies fill the museum wall
Standing close it makes no sense at all
   Each stroke in mountainous relief
Here a glacier of white, there an island of green
But at a distance it becomes a whole
Each life-loving stroke part of the harmony

2. I know that the artist was just a man
As he stood at the canvas, how did he keep his mind around the plan?
Someday, through the distance of time and space
I’ll look back on this tapestry of days
The picture of my life will be like the waterlilies, too
And one of the petals will be you
