This gig was booked and organized by my friend Chiemi, whose energy and enthusiasm for life never cease to impress me. It was a fun evening, and the sound system at P.A.'s is excellent. The evening was also significant as the beginning of the end for the stage name Jacyn Locke, which I had been using at Boston area open mics since December 2002. The flyer (at left) must have been read over the phone to the Boston Phoenix, because the last part of the listing appeared as "Jason and Michael Van London". When we showed up, the bouncer told Michael and I he had been expecting us to be brothers. While I still like the way Jacyn looks on paper, I decided it took too much explanation (and too much spelling out loud). I originally got the idea for Jacyn in high school from a "What to Name Your Baby" book with a section on how boys' names can be turned into girls' names by changing the spelling. I came up with that one myself, but a quick Google search reveals that I'm not the only one to have had the idea. When I released "In It for the Drama" I went back to my given name of Lisa, and haven't looked back. |
At right, a photo from the evening of Chiemi performing with Sammy James (left) and Sean Dennehy (right).Check out Chiemi's work at www.chiemimusic.com. Her 2005 album "Living On 2 Coasts" sounds great and is selling well. |
